"Mačji izmet," Dragon cursed, his lip twitching with anger, briefly showing his white canines. He'd come here, to the caves within the mountain, because he'd had it on good authority that this was the place the Heda had run off to. Having recently arrived and taken a look around, though, the wolfdog could clearly see that wasn't the case. Heda Delta had left the Azgeda camp, doing who knows what, without the protection of Dragon and had yet to return, leaving the pack in a slight panic. Dragon knew it was his fault, had he been without the Heda when she'd chosen to leave, perhaps she would have chosen to stay. Dragon couldn't help but feel responsible for this, it was his job to accompany the maiden on her journeys wherever they may have taken her, however he'd been slacking as of late. Taking personal trips to go see a few of the acquaintances he'd made outside of the pack, running to do things lower status canines within Azgeda should have done, just trying to get away from the harshness of the pack. Really if he hadn't been denying his roots it wouldn't have happened.
Standing here now, within the caves of a mountain not too far from camp, Dragon could feel the weight of the world on his shoulders. He dreaded heading back to camp simply because he had become a symbol of irresponsibility and a hated member of the Delta lovers. Being around the Azgedan camp had no longer become home, it had become a dreaded experience. Dragon almost didn't want to go back. He knew his feet would drag against the grass as he began his journey back, yet again, without the Heda in step with him. It had become something the male had become accustomed to and he knew he wasn't likely to keep his rank as the bodyguard of the newly established Heda, yet his family would be dishonored if he was forced to take a lower status. Dragon was struggling with what to do about it, though he'd had a wild idea. Perhaps if he took over the spot of Heda, even just as a temporary place holder for Delta, he would be able to make it up to his family. That provoked many other doubts, though. Azgeda was a female dominated establishment, if Dragon were to take on the role of Heda he could very well lose his head should someone else want that spot just as badly as he needed.
The mutt sighed, cursing himself again. There was no simple solution to this solution, though the wolfdog thought he knew what he had to do. He had to challenge for the spot. Right now Azgeda was hanging at a limb, desperately seeking direction from the Heda who was nowhere to be seen. He had to become the next Heda of the tribe.
Though his mind was set, Zmaj still had his reservations about returning to camp. Not only would he show up without Delta with him, but now he would be arriving to claim the territory and that was a brave step no one dared to do. No one in Azgeda history had ever done what he was going to do. Dragon could very well turn up to be the most hated of all leaders of Azgeda, though he wasn't afraid to be hated. He was afraid to be martyred.
The wolfdog spun on his heels, moving from the darkness within the caves into the light of the day. He shrugged off his thoughts and kept his mind silent for the duration of the trek back to camp. He made the trip swiftly and easily, arriving into camp just before sundown. His body succumbed to the new role given to him, his tail raising higher in the air, his head no longer held in a submissive order to keep from offending the Heda. He would be the Heda now, he couldn't possibly offend himself. His body grew in stature, no longer feeling the need to dilute itself in order to remain submissive. He became bigger, wider, taller. His ears stood high on alert and his feet planted themselves firmly into the soil as if they were the makings of tree trunks. Dragon called for everyone to gather, though whether they complied or not, he didn't care. They would hear about his taking a new position eventually by word of mouth. Secrets had a tendency of not remaining secrets for very long around here. Finally, after giving everyone who'd chosen to gather out of curiosity a chance to approach the mutt, he began to speak, (in Croatian) "I've just come back from exploring the Mountain Caverns. I had been told by a very trusted resource that the Heda," the mutt stopped himself, choking on his habit of calling the female that. She wasn't the Heda anymore, he was. Dragon corrected himself, "Delta had bunkered down there. Upon arrival, though, there were no immediate signs of her presence and with further inspection it was determined she had never been there." The male let that sink in a moment, taking in the sunken faces of the mutts around him before he continued, "However, I've had some time to think. Heda Delta has left us, she hasn't come back for weeks. She won't be back. So I'm challenging anyone here for the right to that position. I'm challenging every creature here to become the next Heda. If anyone has any objections about my leading, speak now and we will hold a fight for the people to see. A ceremony. The victor coming from the fight will be the next Heda. Should you choose, you may choose a representative among you to fight me on your behalf. Though the one in the fight won't become Heda, you will have won the right to elect one. Even a temporary one to hold the position until you believe Delta's spirit has moved on."
The wolf paused again, allowing his words to sink in to his family. He looked around, watching as the faces turned from sorrow to many mixed emotions. Hate, lust, shock, amusement. There was no shortcoming of expressions with his family. "Objections speak now."
ooc. SO! This is a challenge post. However, since Rook isn't here, any member of Azgeda may post. I suppose even potential members who may be interested in challenging to be Heda can post. I'll leave this here for a week and if I have any replies, I will reply to them. However if I don't, I will discuss it with Mayday and I think Azgeda will become the next Heda. Also, seeing as how Azgeda doesn't have a set territory yet, this will eventually be moved to the territory board of the Azgeda c:
